How to fix broken image links in WordPress

In this video I show you a solution for broken image links in your WordPress site. I am working locally on my development server but this can also apply if you encounter this issue in your live site.

I came across this issue after changing permalink settings right before migrating my local site to the remote host. I manage to break all links to my images by changing the setting from a custom structure to the default and as result the images were not showing, and the page show broken links. The media library was also broken and not showing any of the images I had in my wp-content folder.

TO RESOLVE this: I edited the .htaccess file in the /wp-content/uploads folder and viola, this resolved the issue. I hope this helps.

  1. Thank you for your help. Even though your solution was not exactly the cause of my issue it pointed me to the right place. Apparently, in my testing I added a htaccess file to the uploads folder. Once I removed it, it worked fine. Thanks for keeping me from scratching my head for another hour with this.

  2. Hi Henry,

My name is Eugene. This problem is really affecting my website on the live stream. My localhost website is okay with all images but the live one does not show images. I also dont have the .htaccess file in the /wp-content/uploads folder. What do I do?

  3. Henry,

Your good deed here just saved my skin! The page full of broken links is extremely stressful and this solution worked perfectly on my live site. Thanks so much.
